Tour de Hans Cycles Through Waterloo Region 2013

(Waterloo Region, Canada - September 19, 2013)The much anticipated Tour de Hans event that is part of the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest festival is back again this year. Slated for Saturday, September 28th, the event blends the Spirit of Competition with the Spirit of Gemuetlichkeit and is expected to bring out more than 600 riders for the competition. The 100km or 50km Gran Fondo style race will feature some of the most scenic landscapes in Waterloo Region. Now in its 4th year, race times start at 9am (100 km) and 10am (50 km) and activities will continue throughout the morning until approximately 1:00pm.

Please note that the route includes roads in Wellington County, Centre Wellington Township, Woolwich Township and the Township of Mapleton and intermittent traffic delays are anticipated. Route maps may be found at http://www.tourdehans.ca/race-routes/.

“Safety is of utmost important to us. We are asking drivers to exercise caution around the routes and where possible, find an alternative route,” says Krystal Darling, Chair of the Tour de Hans Committee.

Once the racing is complete, participants are invited to experience Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest hospitality at Bingemans KOOLHAUS, 425 Bingeman Centre Drive, Kitchener. The event festivities include a keg tapping, authentic Bavarian food, live music and prizes. Last year, more than 460 riders from across the province joined in the competition.

This year’s event will also introduce the Junior Jumpstart Cycling Event. Starting at 3pm, riders ranging from 9-16 years of age will set out on courses from 5km to 25km. A portion of each of these registrations will support Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Program. More information is available at http://www.tourdehans.ca/tdh-youth-cycle/.
