For the past 30 years, the Schools Committee of K-W Oktoberfest Inc. has incorporated the multicultural aspects of Oktoberfest with the school curriculum. In the past, school assemblies featuring a Bavarian theme began the week prior to Thanksgiving. We offered these programs to as many schools as possible; however, due to the logistical limitations with the format of the program, we have been unable to make commitments to the number of schools wishing to participate.
As a result, two weeks before Oktoberfest, the Schools Committee presents "Canada's Links to the World - Bavarian Cultural Connections" - an authentic learning experience that is entertaining, engaging and educational. This program is an interactive half-day event where Grade 6 students are able to experience and explore the Gemuetlichkeit and cultural sights, sounds and tastes of Oktoberfest, while connecting the festival's origin to the history of Oktoberfest in Waterloo Region.
We also provide a Schools Package to all public schools in the Waterloo Catholic District School Board and Waterloo Region District School Board. Which includes the colouring contest below.
