 Ziggy und Zaggy Steiner
Ziggy und Zaggy Steiner, the long lost nephews of our goodwill ambassador Onkel Hans (from his wife Freida's side of the family), are visiting Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfeat from the Bayerischer Wald (Bavarian Forest Mountain Range). They have dedicated their lives to being "Masters of the Chicken Dance" and they love the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Lager Beer! Look for Ziggy und Zaggy at the 18 festhallen and many of the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest 2011 events!

Opening Ceremonies: Kitchener - Waterloo
The fanfare of trumpeters will be sounding from the rooftops on Friday, October 7th beginning at 11:15 am, announcing the Official Opening of the 43rd annual Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest, North America’s largest Bavarian Festival. Since 1969, the Festival has grown from a weekend event in one Festhalle, to a nine day, internationally famous Festival that attracts over 700,000 participants.

On Monday, October 10, the chicken won't just cross the road, he'll race down it for 5km! Kick-off the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade by participating in the ONKEL HANS 5K FUN RUN to support the Home Caregiver’s Programme; which provides essential physical, spiritual, emotional, legal and financial information to those who are giving care to their loved ones who are seriously ill at home.

Parade Day - Thanksgiving Monday Share in the spirit of Thanksgiving by helping the community with the Onkel Hans Food Drive that will take place along the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade. Please bring your non-perishable food items to the Parade and volunteers will gladly pick them up along the parade route.

 People's Choice Float - Text To Vote
Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest and the Thanksgiving Day Parade have gone wireless. For the third year in a row the 150,000 spectators at the Thanksgiving Day Parade will be able to text in their votes for the People’s Choice Float Award.
Congratulations to the Pirate Ship Float, sponsored by the Stag Shop ~ the winner of the 2011 People's Choice Float Award!
Spectators simply text the code on the sides of each of the floats to 54500 to cast their vote for the interactive award, and they can vote as many times as they want! The voter will be entered into a draw to win two tickets to fly with WestJet - to be drawn after the festival.
