K-W Oktoberfest Inc. Board of Directors Appoints Alfred Lowrick as the Organization's Acting Executive Director

 

(Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada – August 16, 2017) – The Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Alfred Lowrick as the organization’s Acting Executive Director. He will manage the organization until a permanent Executive Director is established.

“Alfred brings proven leadership to this position serving as the organization’s President in 2015-2016. He is absolutely devoted to our brand and we feel he can confidently and strategically guide Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest through this important chapter in our nearly 50 year history”, says Margo Jones, President of Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest. “He has been a major influencer in the Festival’s fabric over the last twenty years and brings a strong background in human resources management, communications, strategic planning and corporate relations. We are fortunate to have someone with Alfred’s competence and experience to step into this complex and demanding position.”

“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to work for Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest and it’s over 500 volunteers who are the heart, soul and embodiment of what we do,” says Lowrick. “I have so much respect and admiration for the businesses, sponsors and our extensive community service partners that make up our brand and organization.”

Alfred will replace Dave MacNeil who has resigned effective September 11, 2017. Dave has been the Executive Director for over four years and has been with Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest as a volunteer for nearly 20 years in various capacities including 2nd Vice-President and Director of Marketing. We wish Dave well in his future endeavours as we work collaboratively to ensure a smooth transition for Alfred and a successful 2017 Festival.

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is a not-for-profit Bavarian festival founded in 1969 by a group of volunteers committed to contributing to the social and economic vitality of Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada twin cities with German heritage. Canada's Greatest Bavarian Festival celebrates German heritage, food, music and festivities and is supported by more than 40 not-for-profit organizations. The festival is operated by eight year-round full-time staff, over 500 volunteers and 1,300 community and service club volunteers that stage the nine-day festival each October promoting a unique German cultural experience. As well as the economic boost the festival gives the local economy during the international festival, over $1.5 million is raised each year by the not-for-profit organizations associated with Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest, one of the top three most recognized event brands in Canada.
