Canadian Classic Rock Showcase at Oktoberfest Rocks the Tent!

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest will once again be the place where polka meets rock, as festival organizers announce yet another stellar line-up of Canadian artists for the festival’s two main concert events. Canadian music icons April Wine will headline Oktoberfest Rocks the Tent, “Canadian Classic Rock Showcase”, at Concordia Club on Saturday, October 1st, with special guests Sass Jordan, Major Hoople’s Boarding House, and The Black Forest Band; setting the stage for a night of tent-shaking music and a full Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest experience a week before the festival officially opens! On Sunday, October 9th, Rocktoberfest10 will bring together the polka stylings of Walter Ostanek with the rock sounds of Canadian headline act Big Sugar, who appeared at the first Rocktoberfest.

Tickets for both events go on sale soon! You can purchase them from www.oktoberfest.ca or www.ticketweb.ca, or by phone at 1-888-294-4267 x233, or in person at the Hans Haus, 17 Benton Street, Kitchener. Must be legal drinking age.

“We are thrilled this year to be able to offer a line-up of outstanding Canadian Classic Rock acts” says Mark Kreller, Executive Director, K-W Oktoberfest Inc. “April Wine will headline this can’t miss show, as a pivotal band in shaping the Canadian and worldwide rock music scene. They will be joined by Sass Jordan, Kitchener’s own Major Hoople’s Boarding House and Canada’s Premier Polka Band, the Black Forest Band.”

OKTOBERFEST ROCKS THE TENT – Saturday, October 1

It all began in Nova Scotia late in 1969. The Henman brothers, David and Ritchie, got together with their cousin Jim Henman and fellow musician Myles Goodwyn to form a band called April Wine, a name chosen simply because they were two words that sounded good together. Fifteen studio albums, three live releases, numerous compilations, a boxed set and thousands of concerts later April Wine has become enormously popular in Canada, the United States and throughout the world.

When they take the stage at Oktoberfest Rocks the Tent, April Wine will blend the best of rock’n’roll with the ‘Ultimate Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Experience.’ The evening event will also include a performance by festival favourite The Black Forest Band on a second stage; as well as, all the festhallen staples that festival-goers come to expect from Canada’s Greatest Bavarian Festival.

Tickets $29.50 + Taxes and Handling.

ROCKTOBERFEST10 – Sunday, October 9

Big Sugar, known for its loud rock shows played without set lists, had their last concert December 31, 2003, at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. The millionaire recluse Gordie \"Grady\" Johnson went to Austin, Texas and began playing with the band Grady. Kelly Hoppe performs with Mr. Chill & The Witnesses, a roots music group. Mojah and Garry Lowe went on to form Truth and Rights Revue, a reggae band, and have released one album to date. Eric Paul played with Truth and Rights Thornley but had left music to work for Bell Canada.

The band reformed, playing their first show since 2003, at the Ski & Snowboard Festival in Whistler, B.C. on April 23, 2010 with tour dates through summer 2010. The band released a new studio album in June 2011, titled Revolution Per Minute.
