Schwaben Club of Kitchener

This September, we will present the 7th annual “K-W Oktoberfest Inc. Schools Program: German Herita

ge and Identity”– an authentic learning experience for Grade 6 classes that is entertaining, engaging, and educational. This new program is an interactive half-day event where Grade 6 students are able to experience and explore Gemütlichkeit and the cultural sights, sounds, and tastes of Oktoberfest while connecting the festival’s origin to the history of Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest and the immigration of German people to Waterloo Region.
This year, the Schools Program will run over two days – Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 and Thursday, September 28th, 2017. Students will be welcomed at the Schwaben Club of Kitchener, one of the five German cultural clubs in the region, for a free half-day event. We will offer up an authentic German heritage program, which teachers can continue back in their classrooms.

Musical Performance

Students will experience German music demonstrated through song, traditional cowbells, and the alphorn. They will learn how music plays an important role in

German culture and be introduced to the history of Oktoberfest.

“Deutsche Schule” – German Language lessons and Polka lessons

Students will be introduced to common German words and phrases and use them in a conversational activity. They will also learn specific movements to various cultural dances, such as the polka.
