Seeds in Disguise (Wings of Paradise)
Explore the ordinary….seeds are all around us; we eat them; we plant them; they parachute from dandelions; they catch in a dog’s coat or on your socks; they drop from the trees; and sometimes they even hang around your neck. This exhibit features ornamental seeds “disguised” as beads in jewellery, trinkets and ornaments.
Seeds In Disguise will delight all ages and levels of interest – from the curious child, to the backyard botanist, to the seasoned hiker, and everyone in between.
Exhibition runs from June 1 – November 30, 2010.

Observe an 1890's Thanksgiving
Woodside National Historic Site invites festive visitors to experience the boyhood home of William Lyon Mackenzie King, decorated for the harvest season. Our authentically-dressed staff will provide visitors with a glimpse into the Thanksgiving celebrations of the King family in the 1890s. Pumpkin cookies are ready for sampling.

WCAC Annual Jurried Show at the Button Factory

Erntefest - Harvest Festival
The Joseph Schneider Haus, Kitchener’s oldest Mennonite homestead, celebrates the harvest or “Ernte” with a flurry of activity. For ten days, the seasonal tasks of a Mennonite farming family will be performed as they were in the 1850's. Domestic duties such as schnitzing, preserving, pickling and flax processing will prepare the busy household for winter. The bakehouse and drying house will be fired up throughout the week.

Bogenschuetzenfest
This event is the longest continuous running Family & Cultural Event. Anyone with a barebow and special blunt-tipped arrow (flu flu) may participate in Bogenschuetzenfest on Saturday, October 9th. The aim is to knock off parts of a styrofoam eagle mounted on top a 35' pole. Archers who knock off a body part will become members of ‘The Schuetzen Guilde of Archers’. On Sunday, October 10th, competitors can compete in the Running Boar Tournament, where the target is a replica of a wild boar travelling at approximately 20 km/h.

32nd Great Oktoberfest Barrel Race
Roll out the Barrel...and enter a team of four (ladies, men, or co-ed teams) to challenge others in a relay-style race, pushing a metal barrel up King Street for the fastest time. 6th Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day and Family Fun Fest
This family focused event begins at 9 am with the popular Family Fun Fest, loaded with activities! Which include: a "Firefighter Combat Challenge", demos of firefighters performing vehicle extrication with the 'jaws of life' demos, new & antique fire/emergency apparatus, Kitchener Rangers Street Team, Tim Bits, coffee, hot chocolate, a BBQ (for donation) and children's entertainment.
At 12:30, the Ceremonial Memorial Parade kicks off, featuring our antique fire truck, the Pipes & Drums bands from Kitchener & Toronto Fire and the Red Knights Motorcycle Club.
Parade maps and details are online at www.kitchenerfirefighters.ca. A public memorial service will be held, at 1 pm, honouring all fallen firefighters/emergency workers, including 13 from the Kitchener Fire Department.

World's Most Dangerous Bocce Ball Tournament
Teams from Toronto, Hamilton and London, as well as a strong local contingent, will compete, in this doubles Bocce Ball Tournament, for the Oktoberfest Cup (trophy). Bocce, a sport which originated in Italy, takes elements from lawn bowling and is played on a packed sand lane. The object of the game is to throw/roll you ball closest to the movable target ball, or balin. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places. In addition, a mini-Bocce tournament will be held on Family Day for kids.
With minimal all day admission and the Club's other facilities at hand, a trip to the tournament makes for a most enjoyable afternoon for the whole family.

Fall Harvest - Waterloo Region Museum

German Pioneers Day
This event commemorates and acknowledges the numerous contributions made by the German immigrants to the building and establishing of the province of Ontario and throughout all of Canada. At 3:30 pm the Transylvania Hofbräu Band will perform, conducted by Jeremy Frim. The formal program begins a 5 pm with greetings and Heritage Awards. Guest choirs will be performing during the official program.

So You Think You Can Tanz
So You Think You Can Tanz was created in 2008 to showcase the Local German Dance Groups in a friendly competition, held annually at the Alpine Club. Past Champions include Transylvania Dancers (2008) and Alpine Dancers. Come out to see who is crowned this year! Along with this, there will be a new addition to the program - a Polka Dance-off, where one couple from the audience will be crowned Polka King and Queen for the night!

K-W Oktoberfest Atom Tournament
Over 80 teams, of 10 year old boys and girls, from local towns and cities, plus teams from the United States and across Canada are expected to participate in this annual hockey tournament. Teams will compete in all four divisions, AAA, AA, A and MD. The 4 Divisional Finals will be played at RIM Park on Sunday afternoon. Proceeds from this event will go to Minor Hockey in Kitchener and Waterloo.
